About the organization
The Field Studies Council (FSC) was formed in 1943 and has
the mission of "Bringing Environmental Understanding to All", achieved through the following strategic
objectives - (1) Reaching a wider community, (2) Providing quality learning to sustain our environment, (3) Improving our Environmental performance, (4) Reaching a global community and (5) Investing in our Staff.
We have experience of working with young people through
managing a network of 17 environmental education centres in the UK and through these delivering environmental education courses to 100,000 school and university students a year from these centres. We have close links with local education departments and with the Ministry of Education (DCFS) to deliver these. We provide training to a variety of professional groups - including teachers, NGOs, local authorities and businesses from these centres. FSC also develops and publishes resource materials - on average 15 publications a year - for school students, teachers and environmental professionals. We also undertake a variety of curriculum development initiatives especially in the areas of sustainable development and out of classroom learning and biodiversity and ICT.
We have experience of managing international projects and
FSCEE, the international project Unit of FSCE will be managing this project.
FSCEE has worked in over 30 countries, and currently has projects in ten
countries and is experienced in managing projects of over 500000EURO and of managing large teams. Currently FSCEE are managing a number of IT related projects including the www.carbondectives.org.uk project with nearly 1250 schools signed up. We also manage other projects for the Department of Children, Families and Schools related to working with disadvantaged young people. Finally we try and demonstrate good practice by managing our buildings in an environmentally responsible way through environmental monitoring and investing in intelligent energy solutions to demonstrate putting education into practice.
FSC has a membership of around 2500 people, and is governed
by an Executive Committee, made up of elected members. The FSC employs 325 staff of which 125 are academic tutors.
